Speaker Highlight: Marci Marie

Topic: Stay Informed about Texas Legislation

As someone who spent nearly a decade incarcerated, Marci Marie knows firsthand what it feels like to be shut out of decisions that affect your life. Now, she helps lead statewide advocacy efforts that center justice-impacted women and communities. Her work is rooted in healing, storytelling, and making sure people have the tools they need to be informed and engaged.

In this session, she’ll share:

  • Real barriers that keep justice-impacted people from participating in civic life and how we can work to break those down

  • How to keep up with legislation that impacts criminal justice, recovery, housing, and reentry

  • Updates on current bills in Texas where substance use and incarceration overlap

  • How service providers and allies can make legislative information more accessible and empowering

  • Resources in North Texas for directly impacted women to get involved and stay informed

This isn’t just about politics. It’s about people. It’s about making sure that the folks closest to the issues have a voice in creating the solutions. Whether you’re a provider, an advocate, or someone with lived experience, this conversation will offer practical tools and powerful encouragement.
