One World Recovery Network Receives Prestigious HRSA Grant to Expand Peer Support Specialist Training in Texas
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: November 1, 2024
[Hurst, Texas] – One World Recovery Network (OWRN), a pioneer in providing recovery and support services, is thrilled to announce the receipt of a significant grant from the Health Resources and Services Agency (HRSA) under the Opioid-Impacted Family Support Program (OIFSP). This grant, totaling $2.4 million over 4 years, will substantially increase OWRN’s capacity to train and deploy peer support specialists through its acclaimed Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) across Texas, with a focus on medically underserved communities.
This new funding is a testament to OWRN’s longstanding commitment to combat the opioid crisis in Texas, a state that continues to see rising numbers of opioid misuse and related deaths. OWRN’s project, which focuses on both Level I and II peer support specialist training, aims to address critical gaps in recovery support services, particularly in communities that are hard to reach or often overlooked.
The HRSA grant will enable OWRN to expand its innovative model of peer support, which integrates lived experience with professional training to offer empathetic, effective recovery services. The program is particularly noted for its cultural and linguistic alignment with the communities it serves, ensuring that support specialists are not only well-trained but also representative of the populations they help.
"Receiving this grant allows us to extend our reach and impact more lives at a time when support services are desperately needed," said Annie Powell, CEO and Founder of One World Recovery Network. "Our model has proven effective because it is community-driven, culturally informed, and deeply committed to the principles of empowerment and respect."
OWRN’s RAP is designed to prepare participants for critical roles in the recovery ecosystem, providing them with the necessary skills to support individuals and families navigating the challenges of recovery. Trainees undergo extensive training, including both didactic and experiential learning, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet the needs of diverse communities.
The four-year grant-funded program will also focus on creating sustainable job opportunities for graduates, addressing both the need for qualified recovery support professionals and the economic development of underserved areas.
One World Recovery Network invites the community to learn more about their programs and the positive changes they are spearheading in the field of recovery support.
